Expanders

For younger teenagers, we now have an option to control their jaw growth using expanders. This can prevent the risk of serious surgery that may be required if left untreated and develops into a serious cross-bite in adulthood.

Upper and lower jaw can sometimes naturally have mismatched width. One of the option is to expand the narrower jaw to obtain a matching bite. If left untreated until adulthood, surgery that requires removing sections of the jaw bone may be the only option. Orthodontists are trained to predict and prevent such issues at an early age.

It is strongly advised that children should get proper consultation to prevent the risk of surgery.
